Generosity

Would you think that downtown storeowners would donate items and services to a youth run charity event? When I when downtown to ask for donations I certainly didn’t. Boy, I was proved wrong. I was very nervous my first call because I was on my own. I thought that all the shop owners would be scornful of a youth run event, but the first store I went into said they would be happy to donate something. They handed me two generous donations on the spot and a promise of at least five other donations. That gave my outlook a real boost. Now I have gone out four more times and every time I was astonished by what stores donated. It just goes to show that even in these rough economic times people are still wiling to donate what they have to support people that have less. Maybe it also shows that adults are pleased to see youth doing good works and they want to encourage us.
This restores my faith in people, to know that they will still give even to a student run event. However, don’t think that was true of everyone. There were some people so against donating that they didn’t even pretend that they were interested and gave me back the letter without even looking at it. But they were in the minority.
Not to be stereotypical but most of the people that handed me back the letter were older. If this is in any way the way our generations are progressing, it is a very good thing. I find it wonderful that young people such as ourselves find the time in our very busy lives to help out and if some people can recognize our work and donated such precious things to such a worthy cause our world is in good hands.
I now have counted around 60 great items to bid on, including Hillside 2010 passes, 4 rounds of golf with cart at Cobble Beach Golf Link, paintings, a variety of gift and service certificates, and many more fantastic prizes. I am really looking forward to Saturday. I am really excited to see how much we can raise and how many people we can help with the money we will raise.
So come to Guelph C.V.I on Saturday. Doors open at 6 pm.
Hoping to see you all there! Let’s all invite our families, neighbors and friends. We were asked to plan and organize a money-raising event. The generosity of Guelph merchants and others will go a long way to make this successful.
