Eating Froot Loops

For the past four weeks of my summer vacation I have found myself removed from the crutch that had held me up and, admittedly, consumed much of my free time last school year.
Technology.
Or, to be more specific, a close friend I like to call the internet.
The first few days of complete electronic removal, were a bit of a mental shock. Not being able to check my email or facebook. Not being able to google at my every whim; it was a bit disorienting.
I was faced with myself.
Gradually, my daily rhythm evolved. I read voraciously, learned to knit, went for long bike rides, played epic board games with my brothers, took an innumerable amount of pictures, and swam in lakes, rivers, pools and oceans. My family and I became grand explorers of the unplugged world. It was glorious.
When I eventually did return to my former wired haven, I found myself itching to escape. I contrast to my past ways, I had grown so accustomed to filling my time with the real world that it felt wasteful to linger within the cyber-world for any longer than I had to.
I now viewed my once invaluable partner-in-crime as a retched pest chewing away at my precious summer vacation.
I was amazed at how my life had become so consumed by technology, that I had forgotten how to experience the wonder of the world around me.
I’ve now come to find using the internet to be similar to the experience of eating Froot Loops. It’s a nice treat that can be fun and very appropriate at times, but more often than not, after you’re done you’re just left feeling empty.
So eat your Froot Loops wisely.

Absolutely sums up the internet experience. The analogy is incredibly accurate!
