Meet the Educators

J. Barr Joel Barr currently teaches history at Centennial CVI and joyfully exhausts himself chasing after his two children Kiersten and Brendan. His previous hobbies include outdoor activities, running, organizing the Terry Fox Run and talking to his wife Diane. Joel has traveled extensively with students whether with teams, summer programs, or trips to Cuba and through Europe. This trip to Lesotho is a dream come true and began in his civics class four years ago through the inspirational energy of SRI’s founding members.
B. Cluff Brian Cluff has been involved in Education for over 20 years and He is a strong believer in "experiential learning". A graduate of the University of Guelph and Mount Allison University Brian teaches Physical and Health Education and Outdoor Education at Guelph Collegiate. Brian has extensive experience with leading students on wilderness trips across Canada as part of the Canada Youth Exchange Program and through the GCVI Outdoor Education Program. Expeditions include traveling up to Canada's High Arctic in Nunavut, kayaking along the Pacific West Coast, hiking in the Rocky mountains, dogsledding and winter camping in Algonquin Park. Brian has also lead International Trips to Costa Rica.
M. Roe Maggie Roe is the principal at Centre Wellington District High School and has been in the field of education since 1975. She began her teaching career as a science teacher in a large secondary school in London, England before moving to Canada in the late 1970's where she has held various teaching and administrative positions. “My extensive travels have made me realize how privileged we are to live in Canada, and with that comes a sense of responsibility for our fellow citizens of the world who are not as fortunate. I believe it is important to impart this desire to help others to the younger generation so they will do their part to make a difference in their lifetimes. This opportunity to visit Lesotho, I hope, will be the springboard for many future endeavors our students can become involved in.”
